My mouthguard doesn’t fit. What can I do?Updated 2 hours ago

How should it fit?

A well-fitted OPRO mouthguard should:

  • stay in place when you open your mouth, without you needing to bite down to hold it
  • let you breathe and talk (you’ll sound a little different, which is normal)
  • feel comfortable, with no sharp edges or painful pressure points

OPRO mouthguards are designed to cover six teeth on each side, counting out from the centre of your mouth. This gives the best balance of protection and comfort, and helps prevent gagging.

Feels loose or falls out?

Take your mouthguard out and look inside it. You should see clear impressions of your teeth. If there are only a few, or none, it hasn’t moulded fully around your teeth. Your mouthguard can be remoulded, so try the fitting steps again, following each step and timing carefully. See Can I remould my mouthguard?

Looks melted or has lost its shape?

This usually means it was left in the hot water for too long. Once this has happened, it can’t be remoulded, so please contact us and we’ll help under our Precision-Fit Guarantee.

Fitting a child’s mouthguard?

  • If the fitting tray feels too big, practise putting it in a few times first. Try turning it into the mouth from the side, rather than straight in from the front.
  • If your child has missing teeth or new teeth coming through, fit the mouthguard as closely as possible to the teeth they have now. It can be remoulded as their adult teeth come through.

Please don’t cut or trim your mouthguard, as this can affect the fit and the protection it gives.
