How often should I replace my mouthguard?Updated 4 hours ago
We recommend replacing your mouthguard every year, or sooner if it’s showing signs of wear. How long a mouthguard lasts depends on how often you use it and the wearer’s age.
Children and anyone with braces
Children’s mouths change as they grow, and orthodontic treatment moves teeth, so it’s important to check regularly that the mouthguard still fits snugly.
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Instant Custom-Fit mouthguards can be remoulded to adjust the fit as teeth change. Just keep the fitting tray or handle that came with it.
If it still doesn’t fit well after remoulding, it’s time for a new one.
Signs it’s time for a new one
- It feels loose or no longer fits snugly
- It has holes, tears or rough edges
- It has been chewed or bitten through
- It has changed shape
Night Guard
Grinding your teeth gradually wears down your Night Guard, so some wear over time is normal and expected. It’s what the Night Guard is there to do. We recommend replacing it every three months, or sooner if you grind heavily or notice any of these signs:
- It has worn thin or through in places
- It has cracks, holes or rough edges
- It feels loose or no longer fits snugly
